I recently just came back from New Orleans, again. I believe it’s becoming a tradition of some sorts. Searching for cheap places to stay in New Orleans can be a bit overwhelming. But, fear not! You can save more room in your budget for a hand grenade and other signature drinks.
These are a couple cheap options for staying in New Orleans on a poor college kids budget based on my experience the past two times. *disclaimer* I am not an affiliate of any website or hotel, so my suggestions are based on experience as well as a frugal person’s mindset.
Hostels have easily become my go-to safe haven when I need a cheap place to stay in any area both domestically and internationally. In my most recent trip, I stayed at a Hostel in between the Garden District and the French Quarter called Auberge Nouvelle Orleans / AubergeNOLA.
I suggest this place because you can budget in four nights for less than $100. The area around the Auberge Nouvelle Orleans / AubergeNOLA hostel can be a little dodgy at night. If you are a female, prepare to get an Uber on the way home from the bars.
Another Hostel suggestion if you want to stay a little closer to French Quarter is IHSP French Quarter House:
This Hostel is located a little outside of the French Quarter but easily accessible by the trolley or even walking if you’re a trooper and want to save the $3 ($3 is a whole McDonald’s meal).
Feeling comfortable around strangers from all over the world is not everyone’s cup of tea or favorite mixed drink! Airbnb is a great way to have a home away from home with all the privacy and amenities. There are great locations as well that allows for walking distance to the major areas of New Orleans. Here are a couple great suggestions:
This Airbnb is the perfect walking distance to Frenchman Street and the main bars in the French Quarter.
If you prefer to stay on Frenchman Street I would suggest this cheap Airbnb that boasts a frugal price of less than $60 a night. That’s a steal but a bit more than a Hostel.
If you are looking for more privacy than a Hostel but with similar prices, the Seventh South Ward is the cheapest place to rent.
HomeAway is similar to Airbnb in that you can choose rentals from over 2 million homes in over 190 countries. I have not used this method of renting, but I do have a placed rented off this site, so I will keep you updated!
