4 Must Have Fashions for New Orleans

fashion, travel / Monday, May 28th, 2018

South Louisiana is typically lacking in seasons as generally so fashion in New Orleans is tropical all the time. South Louisiana is hot and humid majority of the time. This is a good thing for someone who loves the heat and humidity like I do (minus my hair). Spring and Summer have been when I visited New Orleans. Girl, don’t forget your humidity hairspray (Living Proof– Humidity Shield has saved my life!)

Here are some key suggestions in must have for when visiting New Orleans

1.) Shorts

Let’s be real, the first staple anyone needs in a hot climate are shorts. I tend to have a bit of a bubble butt so finding shorts that do not gape in the back is a challenge. One of my favorite shorts this season are American Eagle’s Jean Shorts- High Waisted Short Short $37.47:

The quality of American Eagle’s shorts and the price point are greatly appreciated when on a budget. I have never been a daisy dukes girl till recently. This all changed when I tried on a pair of American Eagle jean shorts. I quickly fell in love. These shorts are comfortable and stylish for festivals in New Orleans but also allow for the ability to dress up or down.

Another great company I run to for shorts is JCrew- Tie Waist Short $19.95:

These lightweight linen shorts are ideal for the humidity and sweltering heat. I love the front tie bow accent that gives the shorts a nice feminine touch.

Ruffle Shorts

These two companies I have always found relatively inexpensive shorts that fit my curves well without the feeling of tag size shock.

2.) Sundresses

Jackson Square- New Orleans

Sundresses are my favorite go to as soon as the warm sunshine welcomes in Spring. Most men follow the phrase, “sun’s out, guns out” but for me I follow, suns out legs out. I work hard at the gym!

A hidden gem that I found recently is the company SheIn- Yellow Ruffle V Neck $20:

This brightly colored yellow dress with a low back has been a show stopper everywhere I went. This dress is a great piece to stand out in the fashion in New Orleans.

Another flirty option that is under $20 is this Cute Striped Open Shoulder, Ruffle Dress $18:

3.) Hat

Humidity is a killer to your hairstyle! *Disclaimer* as mentioned earlier, one of my favorite go to’s for frizzy hair is to use Living Proof Humidity Sheild seriously worth the money.

One way to counteract the humidity doing its own thing on your hairdo, a hat. Fashion in New Orleans starts with the fedora hat that helps shield the face and not show when you are sweating (everyone is sweating don’t play).

A great cheap option is this straw fedora from Nordstrom for only $19

4.) Summer Fashion Sandals

Summer is my favorite season (clearly I have over 40 pairs of sandals and wedges). Fashion in summer sandals varies by person, but here are a few suggestions of my favorite styles this season:

Louise Et Cie- Clover Sandal $39.98:

Personally, I own a couple sandals from Louise Et Cie, and they have never failed me in getting both compliments or keeping my feet from being worn out. This fashion-forward piece will allow you to feel comfortable and the cushion level in these sandals are like clouds on your feet.

Steven Madden- Jaylen Wedge Sandal $34.98:

Steve Madden Wedge

Steven Madden has the shoe game down! These wedge sandals are in high demand and on point with the shoe game world. They have the best great cushion support as well for the balls of your feet. Trust me you will not be tired from walking all day in these!

These are just some simple suggestions, but comment your favorite summer clothing must haves! I love to hear what you are dying to wear now that the weather is warmer.
